We are passionate about empowering young people

Our Beginnings

In 2017, global headlines were dominated by revelations of sexual abuse across many spheres of society. The #MeToo movement sparked urgent questions:

  • How has sexual abuse and objectification become so normalised that it was tolerated and ignored for so long?
  • What would it take to rewrite the cultural narrative and promote healthy, respectful relationships?
  • Can communities work together to create a culture of dignity and equality for the next generation?
  • How can legislation and political discourse drive meaningful change?

Our founder, Helen Roberts, began a conversation that has been growing ever since. Today, we continue to address the sexualisation of children, the easy accessibility of explicit material, and the normalisation of pornography — issues that harm young people’s physical, mental, emotional, and relational health.

What started in Helen’s living room as friends asking, “What needs to be done?” has become a movement. From influencing legislation and gaining national media attention to working with thousands of young people, Dignify has come a long way — but there is still much to do.

Our Vision

Our vision is for children to thrive in healthy relationships, free from the harms of pornography and empowered to defy the social norms of sexual objectification

Our Part In The YMCA Movement

In October 2024 we became part of One YMCA

Dignify was registered as a charity in 2020, but very sadly our wonderful founder and CEO Helen Roberts passed away in September 2024. The Trustees agreed unanimously for Dignify to become part of One YMCA in October 2024, to build on the pioneering work that Helen had started. We will always be so grateful for Helen's vision, passion, and shining light to all who met her.

Part of the world's oldest and largest youth charity

There are huge synergies between Dignify's vision and One YMCA's Youth Work, Signpost Counselling for young people, and the support services we offer for victims of sexual and domestic abuse.  As part of a national network of 84 YMCAs, we are perfectly positioned to strengthen and amplify Dignify's message more widely.  We are part of a global movement that exists to enable young people to thrive.

Our resolve to grow the work and message of Dignify continues to strengthen, utilising the opportunities we have both locally and nationally"

Guy Foxell, CEO One YMCA and former Chair of Dignify

Dignify is part of One YMCA,

Registered Charity No. 1102301.
