Student Ambassador Programme

This programme aims to equip students with the skills, confidence and voice to champion healthy, respectful relationships and help strengthen school culture from within. We often hear from young people that they want a greater say in their relationships education and the culture of their school. The Student Ambassador Programme provides a meaningful opportunity for students to shape both, while supporting schools to demonstrate strong pupil voice, leadership and personal development in line with Ofsted expectations.

The programme is designed to run over approximately 3 to 6 months, with two focused days of workshops. This allows time for the survey, ambassador training, assembly delivery, and focus group participation.

We recommend a group of around 20 to 25 students.

Schools can either:

• Invite specific students who would contribute well to the programme
• Open applications and run a selection process

Schools should seek a diverse group of students who are willing to contribute positively, listen to others, and represent a range of backgrounds, ages, genders and experiences. Ambassadors do not need to have all the answers; they simply need to be enthusiastic about helping to create a culture of healthy, respectful relationships within their school. We would generally not recommend selecting students who regularly display disrespectful behaviour, as they may find it more difficult to model the values the programme seeks to promote.

The programme can help schools evidence work around personal development, student leadership, behaviour, respect, relationships education, and pupil voice. The review stage can also link outcomes to Ofsted requirements.

Dignify gathers feedback from ambassadors and staff, reviews outcomes with schools, and discusses longer-term impact and next steps.

Schools are encouraged to establish an ongoing role for ambassadors and may access future opportunities such as Dignify's National Network, additional workshops, and annual surveys. When student cohorts change, the programme can be repeated to ensure continual development of ambassadors.
