We are passionate about empowering young people

Our Beginnings

In 2017, global news feeds were dominated by allegations of sexual abuse in many spheres of society. #metoo

We asked:

  • How has society normalised sexual abuse and objectification to such a degree that it has been tolerated and ignored for so long?
  • What would it take to rewrite the prevailing cultural narrative that normalises sexual objectification and help shape a community that promotes healthy relationships?
  • Can the community work together to create a culture of dignity and equality for the next generation to grow up in?

A conversation was launched and has been gathering voices ever since. The sexualisation of children, the easy accessibility of sexually explicit material and the normalisation of pornography are harming our young people's physical, mental, emotional and relational health.

Our Vision

Our vision is for children to thrive in healthy relationships, free from the harms of pornography and empowered to defy the social norms of sexual objectification

Our Part In The YMCA Movement

In October 2024 we became part of One YMCA

Dignify was registered as a charity in 2020, but very sadly our wonderful founder and CEO Helen Roberts passed away in September 2024. The Trustees agreed unanimously for Dignify to become part of One YMCA in October 2024, to build on the pioneering work that Helen had started. We will always be so grateful for Helen's vision, passion, and shining light to all who met her.

Part of the world's oldest and largest youth charity

There are huge synergies between Dignify's vision and One YMCA's Youth Work, Signpost Counselling for young people, and the support services we offer for victims of sexual and domestic abuse.  As part of a national network of 84 YMCAs, we are perfectly positioned to strengthen and amplify Dignify's message more widely.  We are part of a global movement that exists to enable young people to thrive.

Our resolve to grow the work and message of Dignify continues to strengthen, utilising the opportunities we have both locally and nationally"

Guy Foxell, CEO One YMCA and former Chair of Dignify

Our Team

The Dignify team is made up of staff and volunteers who have a deep and enduring compassion for those caught up in abuse, and a passion to see young people empowered to enjoy healthy relationships
